More than half a million people traveled through London airports in the holiday season. In total 210,000 left Heathrow and a further 100,000 left from Gatwick. All of these people going abroad intended that roads around the key airports were also much busy, in particular the M1, M3 and M4. It is meant that in terms of traffic is likely to be the worst for road users with many people leaving the office early and heading off to visit friends and family. For those going abroad, the preferred destinations include New York, Miami and Hong Kong for long haul travelers and Madrid, Paris and Geneva topping the short haul destinations. Unfortunately, there are also many roadwork’s planned for the festive season, so a quick getaway may be disappointed.
