Every March London celebrates an important water sports event called Head of the River Race. This year the race takes place Saturday, March 31th and involves 420 eights, thanks to which it can be called one of the largest and most continuous rowing events in the world. Boats overpass a long waterway from Mortlake to Putney Bridge. The order is the following: boats take off at ten-second intervals and therefore you’ll be able to observe a perpetual procession. But don’t think that the race is something easy – the boats will have to overpass a 6800m way, which is very different from the Olympic and regatta that are usually finished in two hours’ time. Even if you know nothing about the eights and river races, you are advised to visit the event and enjoy this wonderful spectacle. The best way to see the race is to go to Hammersmith Bridge. But check with local police to make sure the bridge isn’t closed.
