The British Museum is pleased to present 90 drawings by Michelangelo, the Renaissance artist and sculptor. The organisers of "Closer to the master" announce that the exhibition gathers material “not seen together since the posthumous dispersal of the artist’s studio in 1564”. It is necessary to note that exhibition has broken records in terms of advance ticket sales. Michelangelo Drawings: Closer to the Master is due to open on March 23rd for a three month run and has already sold over 10,000 tickets. Curator of the British Museum, Hugo Chapman, declares that this is the first Michelangelo exhibition for over 30 years and is particularly special because the artist tended to destroy his drawings to stop them falling into the hands of his rivals.
