Six young men were seriously ill in a London Northwick Park hospital's intensive care after trials of a new drug to fight certain cancers and other diseases. One of the seriously ill victims has been named as student Ryan Wilson, 21, of Highbury, north London. Another has been corroborated as a New Zealander. It was the first time the drug had been tested on humans. The men, who were all healthy, paid volunteers, were admitted to the Northwick Park hospital in northwest London. Two of the men were in a "critical condition" while the other four were "serious but stable" in intensive care. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency is looking at whether the reaction was caused by a dosing error, a manufacturing problem, contamination or whether it was some "completely unanticipated side-effect of the drug in humans".
