Now a new warning has been issued in London about feeding a swans. Londoners are used to being told not to feed not only the pigeons, but a slightly larger bird – swans. Lee Valley Regional Park, in east London, has reported that in the past two months, 12 of its swans have fallen ill and the swans are showing all the classic symptoms of overindulging on bread, which is not a particularly nutritious food. And as a result, swans are filling up on bread and finding themselves not hungry enough to eat according to their normal diets. Manager of the Lee Valley Regional Park association, Ian Kendall has asked audience to the park to cut down on the amount of bread to swans, suggesting they offer them healthier, low-fat alternatives such as grain instead.
