Ken Livingstone declared that he plans to ensure that every London neighbourhood has its own dedicated police team by April 2007. Each unit will have a sergeant, two police officers and three community support officers. Mr Bratton, who will be assisting with the introduction has been inspired by the “zero tolerance” policy that has been successful in Los Angeles recently. After visiting a neighbourhood team in Camden, north London, he said community policing was important in nullifying the terrorism threat. "In dealing with serious international crime you need to focus on the community - if police do not have relationships with communities in a city as ethnically diverse as London the game is all over, we will always be playing catch up," he told.
